Shield: One More Layer Between You and a Hit
When a projectile hits your shield, the bubble flashes and ripples. If the shield absorbs all of the damage, your health stays where it is. Watch the blue shield meter below your health; each hit drains it until the bubble breaks.
A fresh shield absorbs 100 points of damage. It does not run out on a timer: it lasts until its points are gone. The bubble shows its condition too. Its glowing edge grows thinner and paler as the shield weakens, and starts to flicker when little strength remains. If a hit is stronger than what the shield has left, the shield absorbs the remainder and the rest reaches your health.
A knife stab is the exception. It goes through the shield, so keeping your distance still matters.
Use a shield to buy time while crossing open ground or holding a position. When the meter runs low, look for cover or move before the next shot arrives.
